One day I'm just a normal young woman (well, for a given value of "normal" that is) and then next I'm a walking, talking, fire-breathing LOTR fanatic. I think what I like best about it is it recalls me to a time when I was younger, before I got quite this cynical, back when I believed in elves and fairies and kings (I was quite the most starry-eyed, sickening little girl you ever met.) Or maybe I like that the three movies are the best trilogy ever made, bar none--- not even Star Wars holds a candle to them.
No. What I like best is David Wenham.
Sorry, Tolkien!
Who then, is David Wenham? Who is anyone? Why are we here? Well... I don't know about you but *I'm* here because of David Wenham. Yes, David Wenham is... my father. No. He's not. He is the adorable man in this picture though. He's Faramir from Lord of the Rings--- Carl from "Van Helsing "(and the best thing in it, lemme tell you)--- the non-entity Sam Flynn from "Crocodile Hunter:Collision Course" (yeah the one who kept going, "Ah, sugar!")--- and, surprisingly, Audrey the cross-dressing songwriter from "Moulin Rouge." This guy is fantastic, one of the greatest character actors onscreen today, and, like all Australians, has that certain something... yes, an Australian accent. Woohoo Daisy! (his nickname. Seriously)
"You're a genius!"
"A genius with access to unstable chemicals!"
Lets say it started when I was, I dunno, two. The first thing I remember watching, ever in my life, was Monty Python's Spam sketch. And it all went down hill from there. Well, downhill if you were just watching... to me its awesome! I'm getting to the point where I almost automatically reject people if they don't have foreign accents. Is that bad?
Frequently questioned answer: Rik Mayall is a British comedian somewhere in his 40s (within shouting distance anyway) who started his career with the once disliked, now-hallowed TV series "The Young Ones" in the 80s. Several Britcoms ensued in which he pretty much played the same character in different stages of his life. Also he's done a few films (Drop Dead Fred is probably the only one you're likely to locate in the USA) and theatre, and the fantastic series "Rik Mayall Presents" which gave him a break from sneering so much. He's absolutely brilliant though and quite good looking and probably one of my favourite human beings, period, as well as remaining the only man I've ever fallen in love at first sight with. Also I'm searching for his "The New Statesman" series here in the US so if anyone knows where I might be able to get a copy, please let me know. They released "The Young Ones" over here and also "Bottom" and they're doing "Filthy Rich and Catflap (of all things, what a waste of time) so they should be releasing "New Statesman" as well, right? Maybe we can get up a petition...?
"Well, my dad, he moved in some very mysterious circles, you know."
"Did he?"
"Yeah, well, he had one leg shorter than the other, you see..."
